The Alō assessment is built expressly for accommodation providers with input from domain experts in every category.

The proprietary set of 100+ standardized data points collected at the property level enables granular, comparative analysis for hotels, priority adjustment for travel buyers, and a user-friendly view for travelers.

The questions, responses, and values have been mapped against hotel-specific standards like the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance's Pathway to Net Positive Hospitality, and industry-agnostic objectives like the UN Sustainable Development Goals and ISO 20121, 14046, 14046-1, and 20400.

🧮 How is my score calculated?

The questions are broadly sorted into the three primary pillars: Planet, People, and Policy, and from there, 12 subcategories.

The questions are arranged by pillar and category for ease of navigating and understanding the entire assessment.

Each question has an impact weight based on a combination of three factors:

— scale (seriousness) - the gravity of the impact;

— scope (volume) – the number of people affected or how widespread the impact is;

— remendability (urgency) - is it possible to counteract the harm?

Every response option has a point value. Your responses are credited across multiple categories. For example, an established partnership with a local waterway conservancy will have impact in strategy & management, biodiversity, and water stewardship. A commitment to source eggs from a local supplier has cross-pillar impacts:

Planet (lower emissions due to shorter transportation distance)

People (community economic contribution)

Policy (policies in place that ensure local supply chain usage)

Your verification documents are another powerful contributor to your score. The more third-party verification you include, the more credible your initiatives and achievements are to your corporate partners.

Certifications, images, and redacted invoices are all great sources to include!

Do I have to answer every question?

You can skip any question you do not want to answer. A skip is given the lowest possible point value for that question.

How can I improve my score?

Review the categories below 70 and look to take action in these areas. Our platform is open to edits twice a year.

Edited responses require additional verification and are subject to audit.
